Water is vast. We work at its sharpest point.
Water shapes all of it: farms, cities, energy and nature. But for people, its impact turns first on one thing, whether there is safe water to drink. That is where a water crisis is felt first and hardest, and where progress on the other goals begins or breaks down. It makes SDG 6.1 our point of greatest leverage.
A drought is a farming and economic story long before it makes the news. It becomes a human emergency at the household whose nearest safe water is a contaminated pond, a long walk, or nothing at all. That household is the sharp end of every water shock, and safe drinking water is what meets it there.
